Alternator Rebuild Part 3

Now we continue with our gripping series on this sad alternator that had probably been sitting in the salvage yard for many years. God only knows when the 1965 Corvair last ran(Probably in the Reagan administration.). Since I'm going to do a complete rebuild I wasn't worried about getting it wet.

I first started off by spraying it with some degreaser. The outside wasn't bad but the internals had dirt and grime from years of neglect and sitting around. I made note(by taking pictures of it) of the orientation of the cover. I unscrewed the four bolts holding the case together. With some gentle prying with a screwdriver I got it open.

We now get to see the insides of it. It still needed some more cleaner but, otherwise looked in good condition for something that was probably put on during "The Beatles" era.

It looks worse than it really is. All the working parts are there. In the next episode we'll start disassembling it further, testing parts and assessing what it needs. Thanks again and I hope you come back.
